One of the best things about the Inner Voice book are the Inner Voice Whispers, little nuggets of wisdom that are interspersed throughout the book and can be a real source of inspiration. If you’re new and just joining us, Russ Whitney posts a video blog of the same name that you can go to every morning online, if you want to start your day off on a positive note.

For those of you that have either read Russ Whitney’s book Inner Voice: Unlock Your Purpose & Passion, or have been listening to his these Inner Voice Whisper video blogs, you already know that Inner Voice isn’t any type of religious book or training but, on the other hand, doesn’t conflict with religion either.
That being said, Russ was recently a little bit embarrassed when someone, when referring to religion and spirituality, asked him if he knew what the first of the 10 Commandments from the Bible happened to be.
Russ didn’t, even though he was raised quite religiously and thought he knew the Scriptures quite well. The first commandment is “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
Russ realizes that most people believe this means they should not “pray to false idols” but, the truth is, the meaning is a bit deeper.
Anything that’s causing you anxiety, frustration, anger, fear or doubt, anything that might be in your head and troubling you, that itself is a false idol. The reason being is that you’re spending more time on that then you are on connecting with your higher power and your spirituality.
The Inner Voice principles of powerlessness and surrender teach us that we are powerless over people, places, things and indeed most situations. It’s when we try to control or manage these things that are life truly becomes unmanageable.
In fact, in nearly all religions you find that the term “surrender” is used in order to describe what a person must do to give up their “human fight” and allow God, the creator or the universe to be in control.
Simply put, if you’re in constant emotional pain because of a relationship that’s not going well, problems in your professional or personal life or anything that causes you anger, fear, anxiety or doubt, what you simply need to do is surrender and realize that you can’t do anything to change those outward situations but only what’s inside you.
A blog of ours from the 1st week of April entitled “Managing Anger” goes really well with today’s Whisper so, if you have a free moment, make sure to check it out. Enjoy!
